Do you know what a sofer is? A sofer is a scribe, responsible for hand-letting Judaic documents, such as a Torah scroll or mezuzah scroll. Since every Jew has a mitzvah to write a Torah, people will often make a donation and a sofer will write a letter in the scroll on their behalf, fufilling the mitzvah.
